3-day Lençóis Maranhenses Trek

Lençóis Maranhenses
2 Nights·3 Days

Overview

This 3-day Lençóis Maranhenses trek offers a beautiful journey through its vast dune fields. Over the course of the journey, hikers walk along the continuous white sand dunes and have the opportunity to rest and swim in the park’s freshwater lagoons. The route traverses the varied landscapes of the national park, allowing for a sustained observation of its natural environment.

The extended duration of this trek includes overnight stays in the local oases within the park. Resting in the homes of the traditional residents provides a direct cultural exchange. This immersion allows hikers to observe the daily routines and lifestyle of the families who inhabit the interior of the park, adding a practical cultural dimension to the physical journey.

  • Full itinerary: 3-day crossing of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park on foot (Barreirinhas to Santo Amaro).
  • 2 nights in oasis communities (Baixa Grande and Queimada dos Britos).
  • Sunrise hikes, golden sunsets over the dunes, and total immersion in local culture.
  • Visiting and swimming in some of the most iconic lagoons of the park, including Lagoa do Cajueiro.
  • Activities led by highly qualified guides.
  • All-inclusive experience: homestay, transfer (from Barreirinhas or Atins), meals, and local guides.
  • Please note: the daily schedule is a suggested plan, confirmed on arrival and adapted to weather, water levels, and the group’s pace. The 4×4 transfers depend on vehicle availability and seasonal rains.

Reviews

“Awesome experience ! Everything is well-planned for an amazing adventure that I will remember my whole life :-). Thank you again for everything.”

— Léo Diserens

“We were a group of four friends and booked a 3-day trekking through Lençóis Maranhenses at the beginning of September, and it was truly an amazing experience. The communication and organisation through PlanetaEXO were very good. We always received quick answers and had the feeling that they cared about making the experience work well for us. We travelled in the low season, so the tour was just the four of us, and we had both camps completely to ourselves. Of course, having the camps entirely to ourselves may be something some people enjoy more than others, but for us it made the experience feel particularly peaceful and special. The lagoons were still filled with water.. We imagine that during the high season the park can get quite busy, so travelling in the low season was a great choice for us. The trekking itself was one of the highlights of our entire trip. Our hosts at both camps were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and our guide Leozihno was fantastic — very competent, knowledgeable and also a really nice person to spend the three days with. The sunrises and sunsets over the dunes and lagoons were just so beautiful, and walking through this unique landscape with hardly anyone else around made it feel truly magical. We can highly recommend the 3-day trek with PlanetaEXO. It was an unforgettable experience and definitely one of the best things we did in Brazil!”

“I had a great time on the 3 day hiking trip in Lençóis Maranhenses. There were three of us on the trek, myself and a lovely French couple. Our guide Patricio spoke English, provided us with all the necessary information and was kind and helpful. He gave us a lot of snacks! We had breakfast/lunch/dinner in the small villages and they were able to cater for dietary requirements. The treks themselves are not overly strenuous but there are some very early morning starts. Would definitely recommend the trek as a way of seeing the beautiful national park and swimming in the lagoons in a small group without the crowds.”

— Hannah

“A very physical and intense three-day experience. The panoramas are very beautiful and the group, from diverse backgrounds, got along very well. One small downside: the guide sometimes imposed a pace that could have been more moderate if the time management had been more balanced. The choice of the stopover for the two evenings was friendly and fairly comfortable. It's a shame that the electrical outlets for charging phones were insufficient. On the other hand, the whole preparatory side of the trip and its support were handled with great professionalism by Ana, who was my main point of contact. Commitments were respected and kept. In the end, a very beautiful human experience (a group of six hikers) in a natural setting that was very beautiful and at times impressive. A special thank you to Uji, the second guide, very considerate and above all taking care of each one of us! Thank you Uji! A must-do!”

— Charlie

“We booked a 3-day Lencois Marahrenses trekking which was a real once in a lifetime experience. Communication and organisation through PlanetaEXO was perfect, prompt and trustful. The trekking itself was one of our best times ever. We can highly recommend it! We did it End of July and it was the perfect time. Lagoons full of water and blue skies.”

“Waouh !!! L'expérience d'une vie. Que dire : une organisation au top, des guides parfaits. De nombreuses petites attentions.”

— Clement

“The guides were awesome and attencious, the landscale was incredible and the structure to sleep and eat was all planned to the minimum details. everything perfect”

— Felipe Miura

“We had an unforgettable experience, sometimes even looking like another world. Our guide was respectful, getting his distance during the time we were in the lagoons, he knew the history of the place and also the best shortcuts to save more time for the lagoons.”

— Lola Coelho

“We had the most fantastic experience. The hike is great, the scenery fantastic, I have never seen a landscape like this before. Our guides Patricio and Cleiton made the whole trip safe and they took really good care of us. I really recomment this trip!”

“Lençóis Maranhenses is one of the most stunning, otherworldly places I've ever seen and/or experienced. And my incredible experience was in no small part due to our guides- Adailson and Patricio- and to Ana Carolina, who coordinated our booking of the trip. Adailson and Patricio were exceedingly competent, knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely fun. They were excellent in helping our group responsibly navigate the trek (and trip in general) while allowing us a generous degree of independence; they emphasized the importance of respecting the pristine nature around us yet never felt overbearing. The trip, though relatively brief, felt increasingly like a bonding experience among our crew. The experience was well-planned, coordinated, and executed. Everything was well-organized and any minor inconveniences (eg my friend and I forgot to bring towels, and the guides organized that with the villages we visited) were promptly handled. I will and do absolutely recommend a trip with this company, especially under the wings of Adailson and Patricio (with Ana Carolina being excellent as the facilitator and in her follow-up to confirm everything was going smoothly). Another lovely detail: my friend (during our group's introductions) mentioned that this was initially a birthday trip for me, Adailson and Patricio surprised me with a birthday cake (and accompanying song, thanks to our lovely crew) on the day before our departure. Was the cherry on top of a spectacular trip. I hope to book with this team again!”
